Software Engineer

4D is seeking a candidate to design and write software for high precision optical metrology instrumentation. Applicant will be working with Windows scientific programming, camera interfacing, graphical display and user interface issues. A background in any of the following fields is desired: software, physics, optics, optical testing, or image processing.

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum requirements:
1) 2+ years experience, or equivalent, in software engineering.
2) Fluent in C and C++. Python or Microsoft .NET experience a plus.
3) Hardware interfacing or IT administration desirable but not required.
4) Minimum B.S. degree, M.S. degree desirable.
5) Excellent people skills with t he demonstrated ability to work within a strong team.

Opto-Mechanical Technician

Responsible for assembly, alignment and test of precision optical systems, including optical, mechanical and electrical components.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Production assembly, alignment, calibration, test, documentation, quality control and packaging.
2) In-house repair and service, occasional on-site repair and service, and maintenance of service records.
3) Work with R & D team to assemble and test new products.
4) Provide training for other production staff and achieve a high level of cross training.
5) Actively participate in continuous improvement projects.

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum requirements:
1) Associates degree in optical science and 3 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2) Knowledge of optical handling, cleaning and assembly procedures.
3) Knowledge of optical devices including: lenses, mirrors, prisms, collimators, shear plates, beam splitters etc.
4) Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.

The following experience is highly desired:
1) Experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, precision power supplies and digital multimeters.
2) Experience configuring windows based computer systems.
3) Experience with wire termination and cable assembly, including soldering and crimping.

Instrumentation Software Engineer

4DTechnology is seeking a software engineer for a one year contract to assist in the analysis, design, testing and documentation of control and analysis software for a precision optical interferometer to be used in an upcoming space mission.

The successful applicant will work in a mixed Windows and Linux development environment to assist in the design, review and test of instrument hardware interfaces, data analysis algorithms, and graphical user interface software modules, all written in Python and C/C++. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience with C/C++ and/or an interpreted language environment such as Python (preferred), Java or Tcl/TK. Experience with wxWidgets or wxPython would be a plus, along with some familiarity with mainstream software engineering topics such as software requirements, modeling techniques, OOD patterns, code metrics, and testing methodologies.

In addition to software engineering experience, a background in any of the following fields is highly desired, but not mandatory: physics, optics, optical testing, or image processing.
