James C. Wyant, Ph.D, Chairman |
![]() With over 100 publications, Professor James C. Wyant is an acknowledged expert in the fields of interference, diffraction, and optical testing. He is a pioneer in the fields of phase shifting interferometry, multiple wavelength interferometry, vertical scanning interferometry and holography and holds numerous patents.As a founder of WYKO Corporation, he served as its Chairman and President from 1984 to 1997. A fellow of both SPIE and OSA, and the 1986 President of SPIE, Dr Wyant has been the recipient of numerous awards including the SPIE Governor's award, the R&D 100 award, the OSA Joseph Fraunhoffer award, and the SPIE Gold Medal award. Dr. Wyant currently serves as the Dean of the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona and sits on numerous corporate boards. |
James Millerd, Ph.D., President |
![]() Dr. Millerd brings extensive expertise in optical metrology and leadership to the role of President. He has been a central figure in the development and commercialization of vibration-insensitive interferometry, the core technology of 4D's product line, and he is co-founder of both 4D Vision Technology, Inc. and 4D Technology Corporation. Prior to 4D, Dr. Millerd held leadership and engineering positions wih MetroLaser, Inc. and TRW’s Space and Technology Group. Dr. Millerd’s success in optical measurement and real-time interferometry has led to over 30 publications and numerous patents and awards. He received his BS in Physics and Electrical Engineering from California State University, Chico in 1987. He received MS (1989) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees from the University of Southern California in the Electrical Engineering Department. He has served on the California State University, Physics Advisory Board since 1995. |
Stephen J. Martinek, Director of Sales and Marketing |
![]() Steve Martinek brings to 4D Technology over twenty-five years experience in optical engineering, surface metrology, product development and marketing. He joins the company following 15 years with WYKO Corporation (now a subsidiary of Veeco Instruments) where his responsibilities included product management for various interferometer systems, applications and product development, manager of technical and customer service, and sales and marketing.During his seven-year tenure as VP of International Sales, Steve managed a network of 16 distributors representing WYKO in 25 countries in Europe and Asia. Prior to WYKO, he was employed by the TRW Space and Technology Group were his experience included analysis and testing of satellite based optical systems and by Pacific Sierra Research performing system analysis, test planning and ground tests of defense optical systems. Steve received degrees in Physics (BS – 1973, MS-1975) from the University of Illinois and an MS (1980) in Optics from the Optical Sciences Center at the University of Arizona. |
Brian Medower, Director of Engineering |
![]() Brian Medower joined 4D Technology with over 10 years of optical engineering experience. He has extensive experience in the design and characterization of physical optics systems. Brian came to 4D from Ball Aerospace, where he was responsible for design, analysis, and alignment of optical systems for space based UV and visible spectrometers. Brian was previously Principal Media Development Engineer at DataPlay, Inc. where he was responsible for all aspects of media development for a novel consumer electronics storage product, from media design to volume production. Prior to that, he worked for Terastor Corporation, developing media for a high-density storage devices based on near-field optical recording and Optex Corporation, developing phosphor based optical storage media. Brian received his Bachelors of Science in Engineering Physics from the University of Arizona in 1994. |
Neal Brock, Director of New Technology Development |
![]() Neal Brock is a co-founder of 4D Vision Technology, Inc. and 4D Technology Corporation and is a co-inventor of the 4D PhaseCam technology. He was the Production Manager and one of the first employees of Aerometrics Inc. He helped grow the company to 50 employees in 6 years as it became a leading supplier of laser-based instrumentation to industry. More recently, he was a Research Scientist and Director of Engineering for MetroLaser Inc. where he published over 25 research papers in Resonant Holographic Interferometry, 3D Laser Profilometry and High-Speed Interferometry while supporting R&D and technology commercialization activities. |
Catherine Ornstein, Director of Finance |
![]() Cathy Ornstein received her M.B.A. in Finance/MIS from the University of Arizona in 1991 and her A.S. and B.S. in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati in 1974 and 1982. She serves as 4D Technology's director of finance and oversees the human resources and purchasing departments. Cathy came to 4D through WYKO Corporation and Veeco Instruments where she served as controller responsible for monthly and annual divisional financial statements. She brings with her a broad experience in account analysis, financial reporting, tax issues, accounting software, and 401K administration. |
Michael North-Morris, Ph.D., Program Manager / Senior Scientist |
![]() Dr. North-Morris has brought over ten years of experience in optical engineering and interferometer design to the 4D engineering team. His technical innovations have garnered numerous patents and publications, while his 4D product programs have earned two R&D 100 awards for technical excellence. Prior to 4D Michael was a senior optical engineer for Agilent Technologies where he designed fiber optic test and measurement equipment. He earned his Masters (1998) and PhD (2000) in Optical Engineering from the University of Arizona. |
Chris Lesadd, Director of Manufacturing |
![]() Chris Lesadd brings over 20 years of experience and a passion for lean manufacturing to 4D’s production team. An expert in designing and implementing Kaizen, Toyota Production System, and Six Sigma techniques, Chris has successfully transformed many traditional manufacturing units into highly effective, lean organizations. He has used his knowledge of cost reduction, defect prevention and design transfer to improve 4D’s production capability and to strengthen its supply chain. Chris is also responsible for creating effective Quality Systems that enable business processes and meet ISO regulations. He received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Harrow Technical College, London, England in 1984. |
Chip Ragan, Director of Marketing |
![]() With over 20 years of test and metrology equipment experience, Chip Ragan is focused on connecting 4D's outstanding technology to customer needs. Chip held multiple posts within WYKO Corporation (later a division of Veeco Instruments), including both engineering and marketing program management. Chip’s experience with metrology solutions for high volume production and laboratory research has helped drive 4D’s product development. He received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri - Rolla. |
John B. Hayes, Ph.D., Board Member |
![]() Dr. Hayes received his BS in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Arizona, in 1975. He received MS (1981) and Ph.D. (1984) degrees from the Optical Sciences Center at the University of Arizona. Dr. Hayes spent 15 years as a member of senior management an the corporate board of WYKO Corporation. During that time, he was responsible for the development of over a dozen product lines, designing numerous state-of-the-art interferometric metrology systems. As a Research Professor at the College of Optical Sciences, Dr. Hayes worked on interferometric vibration-compensated metrology. The author of many technical publications, Dr. Hayes also holds numerous patents in the areas of optical testing, atomic force microscopy, and suspension arm metrology. As an adjunct research professor at the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona, he continues to teach courses on fast Fourier methods and optical engineering. |
