FizCam 2000 – Short Coherence Interferometers

The FizCam 2000 Fizeau laser interferometer combines vibration tolerance, instantaneous phase measurement, the ability to isolate surfaces, and the ability to measure a remote Fizeau cavity or solid cavity, for highly accurate characterization of telescope optics, precision optics and prisms.

The FizCam 2000 short coherence interferometer (low coherence interferometer) simultaneously captures all phase data, allowing high-resolution measurement even in the presence of vibration and air turbulence. Its unique design allows instantaneous measurement of a wide range of optical components and systems.

The FizCam 2000’s proprietary laser source enables measurements which would otherwise be difficult or impossible to conduct. These include measurement of thin, plane parallel, transparent surfaces, such as those found in lithography mask substrates, and flat panel display glass. The system can also measure “remote cavities,” in which both the test and reference surfaces are physically separated from the interferometer, as when measuring large telescope and satellite optics.

Separating surfaces

One benefit of a short coherence source is that parallel surfaces can be separated from each other in the measurement. By using 4D Technology’s Path Matching feature, you can “dial in” a particular surface within a certain distance of the interferometer. On standard FizCams, the range is up to 400 mm (18 inches). On FizCam interferometers with the EP option, the range in which you can separate surfaces from each other is extended to 2 meters (78 inches).

What to expect

The FizCam 2000 is a vibration insensitive, on-axis, dynamic Fizeau interferometer, for high accuracy measurement of optical grade surfaces. Featuring a short coherence length source, the system enables measurement of parallel surfaces without the need for coatings to attenuate extraneous interference fringes.

The FizCam 2000 eliminates bulky and slow phase shifters by incorporating patented technology using a single camera, high-speed optical phase sensor that makes a wavefront measurement in as little as 150 microseconds. Because acquisition time is so short the FizCam can be used under almost any conditions, even for measuring moving parts, without vibration isolation.

The short coherence length source allows for measurement of close (< 0.3 millimeters) parallel glass surfaces. Other applications include remote cavity measurements, testing of index homogeneity, measurement of thin optics, and environmental chamber tests.
