When 4D Technology’s AccuFiz interferometers’ patented dynamic mode was introduced, their spatial-phase-shifting technique provided an amazing capability. The stability requirements (sensitivity to vibration) for a measurement dropped from 100’s of milliseconds to less than 1 millisecond. It offered a 2- to 3-orders of magnitude increase in robustness, making it the recommended mode for noisy environments that might have a lot of vibration. It was also a solution for measuring very large optics, where physically shifting the test or reference optics was onerous or impossible.

But the dynamic method we used for AccuFiz had a complication as well: part of the return path in the interferometer was slightly off-axis, meaning that the highest degree of precision in spherical measurements involved some rather laborious calculations, after the fact.

But now, the popular smaller form factor of the AccuFiz can offer dynamic, on-axis fizeau measurements. An added bonus to this new on-axis instrument is that the source is short-coherence meaning the interferometer can measure plane-parallel optical systems, too. So the new AccuFiz is perfect for flat optics, thin or wedge-free flat optics and for spherical optics, providing you with extraordinary flexibility of application, plus fast, vibration-insensitive acquisitions, and high precision, complication-free results.
